Overview
Convert an IPv4 address into its 8-digit hexadecimal representation (two hex digits per octet), or reverse the process by pasting a hex string back in to get the dotted-decimal address. This is the same underlying value in two different representations - useful for reading hex-encoded addresses in packet captures, low-level networking configs, or systems that store IP addresses as raw hex rather than the familiar dotted-decimal format. Each octet is validated to be within the valid 0-255 range before conversion. Runs entirely client-side.
Best for: Reading a hex-encoded IP address from a packet capture or low-level config
How to use this tool
- Choose a direction. IPv4 to hex, or hex back to an IPv4 address.
- Enter your value. A dotted-decimal address like 192.168.1.10, or 8 hex digits like C0A8010A.
- Read the result instantly. The conversion updates live, with invalid octets or malformed hex flagged clearly.
Frequently asked questions
Some low-level networking tools, packet captures, and legacy configuration formats store or display IP addresses as raw hex bytes rather than the familiar dotted-decimal notation, since that's closer to how the address is actually represented in memory or on the wire.
No - this converts 4-byte IPv4 addresses only. An IPv6 address is 16 bytes and uses its own hex-colon notation, which this tool doesn't handle.
