Overview
Paste YAML and see it parsed into a real, expandable structure showing exactly what data it represents - the same JSON-equivalent tree view the JSON Tree Viewer gives JSON, built here from js-yaml’s safe load() so YAML tags can never instantiate arbitrary JS types. This is a different job from formatting: the YAML Formatter turns messy YAML source into clean YAML source, while this tool turns YAML into a structure you can inspect, with a one-click JSON export of that exact shape. Runs entirely client-side.
Best for: Checking exactly what data shape a YAML config actually parses into
How to use this tool
- Paste your YAML. A config file, Kubernetes manifest, or any YAML document.
- js-yaml’s safe load() parses it. The content becomes a real in-memory value; invalid YAML is reported with a specific error.
- The value is rendered as a tree. Objects, arrays, and primitives are shown in an expandable, JSON-shaped structure.
- Copy the JSON-equivalent output. Grab the exact parsed shape as JSON with one click.
Why use this tool
Real parsed structure
Shows the actual in-memory value YAML parses into, not just reformatted YAML text.
Safe parsing only
Uses js-yaml’s load(), which never instantiates arbitrary JS types from YAML tags.
One-click JSON export
Copy the parsed structure directly as JSON.
Distinct from the Formatter
The YAML Formatter reformats YAML source; this tool inspects the parsed data shape instead.
Frequently asked questions
The YAML Formatter’s output is still YAML - just cleanly re-indented. This tool instead shows the parsed data structure itself (the JSON-equivalent shape), and lets you export that structure directly as JSON, which the Formatter doesn’t do.
No - it’s only parsed, via js-yaml’s load(), which is the safe loader in js-yaml 4.x. It builds a plain JavaScript value from your YAML; it never evaluates code or instantiates arbitrary classes from custom YAML tags.
