Overview
Paste two XML documents and see exactly which elements were added, removed, or changed between them. Both documents are parsed and re-serialized with consistent indentation before comparing, so a difference in whitespace or attribute ordering doesn't get flagged as a change - only actual structural or content differences show up. This mirrors the JSON Diff Checker's approach for XML, since a naive text diff would report false positives for every formatting inconsistency between two documents that are otherwise identical. Runs entirely client-side, so nothing you paste is ever uploaded.
Best for: Reviewing what actually changed between two versions of a config or API response
How to use this tool
- Paste both XML documents. The original version in XML A, the changed version in XML B.
- Both are normalized first. Each document is parsed and re-indented consistently before comparing.
- See the real differences. Added and removed lines are highlighted - formatting-only differences are ignored.
Frequently asked questions
No - both documents are re-serialized with the same consistent indentation before comparing, so whitespace and formatting differences are ignored. Only actual differences in elements, attributes, and text content are flagged.
The comparison stops and reports which document (A or B) failed to parse, rather than attempting a text-level diff on invalid input. Fix the XML using the XML Formatter & Validator first if you need help finding the syntax error.
Same approach, different format - this normalizes and compares XML documents instead of JSON. If you're comparing JSON instead of XML, use the JSON Diff Checker.
