About this tool
Add a row for each course with its name, credit hours, and letter grade, and see your overall GPA calculated as a credit-weighted average - each course's grade points (on the standard 4.0 scale, with A=4.0 down to F=0.0, including plus/minus gradations like B+ =3.3) are multiplied by its credit hours, summed across all courses, and divided by the total credit hours, exactly matching how most US institutions compute a semester or cumulative GPA. Being upfront about a real limitation: this uses the standard US 4.0 scale with conventional plus/minus grade points, but not every institution uses identical values - some schools don't award grade points for A+ beyond 4.0, some have different point values for plus/minus grades, and international grading systems often use entirely different scales - so if your specific institution's scale differs from the conventional one used here, the result may not exactly match your official transcript GPA. Rows can be added or removed freely, and credit hours are validated so a course with invalid or missing credits is excluded from the calculation rather than silently breaking the result. This calculator uses the conventional US 4.0 scale with standard plus/minus grade points, but institutions vary in real ways: some cap A+ at 4.0 rather than awarding above it, some use slightly different point values for plus/minus grades (a B+ might be 3.3 or 3.5 depending on the school), and some don't use plus/minus distinctions at all. Always treat this as a close estimate and check your institution's official grading policy if you need an exact figure.
A course with missing, zero, or otherwise invalid credit hours is excluded from the GPA calculation rather than causing an error or skewing the result - the tool flags that at least one row was excluded so you're aware, but the remaining valid courses still calculate correctly. This matters because including a 0-credit "course" would otherwise be mathematically meaningless in a credit-weighted average.
Yes - just add every course from every semester you want included as its own row with its actual credit hours and grade, and the credit-weighted average works the same way whether the courses span one semester or your entire academic history.
