Overview
Paste LESS source - variables, nested rules, mixins - and get back plain, browser-ready CSS. This uses the official less package’s compiler running entirely client-side: no filename is given to the renderer and imports are never resolved against a filesystem or network address, so an @import that can’t be resolved in-memory simply fails with a clear compile error rather than attempting to fetch anything. That matters because this tool never sends what you paste anywhere - compilation happens fully in your browser. Useful for quickly checking what a LESS snippet actually compiles to, or converting a small LESS file to CSS without wiring up a build step.
Best for: Checking what a LESS snippet compiles to without a build step
How to use this tool
- Paste LESS. Variables, nested selectors, and mixins are all supported.
- Compiled instantly. The official less package compiles your source to plain CSS in your browser.
- Copy the CSS. Copy the compiled output directly, or fix any reported error and recompile.
Frequently asked questions
No. Compilation runs entirely in your browser using the less package’s JavaScript compiler - nothing you paste is uploaded to a server.
Since no filename or import path is provided to the compiler, an @import can’t resolve against any local file or remote URL. If your LESS depends on an external import, compilation will fail with a clear error rather than silently succeeding or attempting a network request.
This tool compiles LESS down to plain CSS - variables get resolved, nesting gets flattened. The LESS Formatter instead re-indents LESS source while keeping it as LESS, for when you want to clean up formatting without changing the language.
